Here’s Why Meghan Markle’s Kids Will Never Be Princes and Princesses

260

Meghan Markle will never be called Princess Meghan, and her future children will never be princes or princesses, because of the rules of the royal family.

After her marriage, the former actress officially received the title of Her Highness the Duchess of Sussex but her children will not receive titles of Prince or Princess.

Unlike the children of the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, the future children of Meghan will have the title of “Lord” or “Lady”.

According to the rules governing the British Crown, only those born in the royal family must be called Prince or Princess, followed by their first name.

Prince Harry’s mother, Diana, was known as the Princess of Wales thanks to her husband the Prince of Wales. However, the deceased was never considered Princess Diana in the royal proceedings.

Only the Queen could break the royal rules, if she decides to bless the couple’s children with a royal title.

If the queen decides to do so, she will have to issue a new letter patent that would modify the original decision. She had done it with the children of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The daughter of Prince William, Charlotte, was originally called Lady Charlotte Mounbatten-Windsor, before the Queen decided to grant her the title of Princess Charlotte.

Since he is the first-born son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales, little George would still be called His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.
